MEMORANDUM

DATE:            September 17, 2009

TO:                 D. Mike Good, City Manager

FROM:            Commissioner Anthony Sanders

SUBJECT:     A Resolution of the City of Hallandale Beach, Florida, Supporting the Development and Operation of the Historical Gospel Complex for Education & Preservation in the City of Lauderhill, Florida

The Historical Gospel Complex for Education & Preservation is a corporation in the State of Florida supported by National and Local Directors and an Advisory Board, including the Pastoral Body, Educational Partners and Gospel Industry Professionals.  Its main goal is to develop and become a repository to store and preserve artifacts, memorabilia, historical documents and recordings of the Gospel music industry, thereby providing access to students and the community to the history of Gospel music.  Furthermore, it will provide a television and recording venue for professional musicians, singers, songwriters, producers, publishers and writers.  To this end, the Historical Gospel Complex for Education & Preservation is planned for development at the intersection of State Road 7 and Sunrise Blvd. in the City of Lauderhill, Florida.  Once completed, the Historical Gospel Complex for Education and Preservation is expected to become a tourist destination and as such generate employment opportunities for residents throughout Broward County, as well as annual revenues in excess of $10 million and local spending for goods and services associated with the complex in excess of $50 million annually.  Finally, but not least important, it will provide a unique cultural experience for residents and visitors in south Florida.

The attached Resolution is an important instrument to raise awareness of this organization and its efforts to provide a business and tourism destination while creating jobs by partnering with Broward County and the Broward County Board of Tourism.  Therefore, I am requesting support of the City Commission by passing the attached Resolution.
