SUBJECT:     Ordinance Amending Article IV, “Parking Meters,” by creating section 28-141, “Exemption for Veterans” in the Code of Ordinances  CAD# 008/08

PURPOSE:

To adopt an Ordinance on Second Reading pertaining to exemptions for payment of parking meter fees by veterans.

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:

In recognition of such sacrifices the City wishes to provide veterans whose cars properly display license plate validly obtained from the State of Florida, an exemption from having to pay parking meter fees.  The exemption shall apply only to municipal parking meter fees, not the municipal residential parking permit program

At the November 5, 2008 Commission meeting, the Commission added language to line 33 of the ordinance as follows: “or other verifiable license plates from the State of Florida”. Attached please find a copy of the proposed Ordinance.

RECOMMENDATION:

The City Commission adopt the Ordinance on Second Reading at the November 19, 2008 Commission meeting.
