SUBJECT:     Consideration of Establishing an Ad Hoc Parking Committee

PURPOSE:

To further discuss establishment of an ad hoc Parking Committee with a sunset date.

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:

At the first Public Hearing on the Budget on September 17, 2008 there was a lengthy discussion of on-street parking concerns, locations and possible rates for use of parking spaces provided by the City.   The City Manager was authorized to proceed with implementation of a parking program within the Three Islands area.  However, it was determined that a City wide parking plan is needed.

In order to facilitate the development of a City wide parking plan, the Commission directed that an ad hoc Parking Committee be established to assist staff in the preparation of said parking plan.  Staff requires additional information from the Commission regarding membership on the committee, the duration of the committee and a scope of work required to be accomplished in order to establish the ad hoc committee.  With this information, staff, under City Manager direction, will prepare an administrative policy pertaining to committee establishment and membership, functions, work results and time frame for reporting back to the Commission.

RECOMMENDATION:

The City Commission further discuss the ad hoc Parking Committee and a City-wide parking plan.
