Ocean Rescue

Hallandale Beach opened its Ocean Rescue Department in 2012 under the Department of Fire Rescue. The Department consists of 15 full and part time lifeguards. All of our lifeguards are EMTs, and our agency is certified by the United States Lifesaving Agency (USLA).

The beach is open 365 days a year and is currently protected for extended summer hours from 9: 00 am to 6 pm. Normal protected hours are 9:30 am to 5 pm from September to April.


New!! Beach Wheelchair Service!

Hallandale Beach Ocean Rescue is proud to announce the launch of it's beach wheelchair program! Now residents and visitors with special needs can enjoy our beach with their family and friends. The wheelchairs can be used over flat surfaces, sand and even taken into shallow water!

Chairs will be available on a first come, first served basis and will be available at Towers 1 and 2 between the hours of 9:30 am and 5 pm. Users will be required to fill out an application including a waiver, supply an ID and credit card and must have an attendant 18 years of age or over at all times. The policy is available here. Beach Safety Tips



While our lifeguards strive to keep residents and visitors as safe as possible when something happens, it is better to prevent a dangerous situation in the first place. Below are the USLA's Top Ten Beach Safety Tips to keep you and your friends and family safe when you visit the beach:

  4. Check conditions with lifeguards
  5. Use sunscreen and drink water
  6. Obey posted signs and flags
  7. Keep the beach and water clean
  8. Learn rip current safety
  9. Enter the water feet first
  10. Wear a life jacket
